A Hampton County woman was sentenced in federal court Thursday in connection to a fatal drug-related shooting, officials say.
Roqel Connors, 23, of Garnett, received 10 years in Charleston’s federal court for discharging a firearm as part of a drug trafficking crime, U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said in a statement released Thursday.
Evidence presented at the hearing showed that after Connors arranged to sell marijuana to a man in Beaufort in 2011, an argument broke out with another man who was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle where the transaction was taking place, Nettles said.
Connors fired a Glock handgun into the vehicle striking the driver, Mark Kevin Jones, in the back of the head, killing Jones.
Connors also received five years supervised release to follow the sentence.
