Orangeburg County club owner charged with murder

The owner of the Corner Pocket Night Club at 697Goff Ave., in Orangeburg, was charged with murder on Friday following the shooting death of a club patron on Saturday, July 19.

Witnesses told investigators with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department that James Williams, 69, kicked the 26-year-old victim, Phillip Brunson, out of his club after a fight. He then followed Brunson outside where the shooting occurred. Williams allegedly admitted shooting Brunson in the stomach but further details about the altercation that preceded the shooting were not made public by the sheriff’s department.

Williams is scheduled to be arraigned at 9:30am Saturday. He was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
