A suspect who hit two cars and crashed into a tree Tuesday afternoon is still in the hospital and in critical condition, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Antonio Grissett, 20, will face charges upon his release from the hospital, Lt. Curtis Wilson, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman, said.

The charges Grissett could face included failure to stop for blue lights and sirens, possible narcotics charges, improper lane change and expired tags, Wilson said.

Wilson said the charges are not official until Grissett’s release.

Grissett has prior convictions for felony firearm possession, first degree burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Deputies say they observed Grissett make a drug transaction at the AM PM convenience store on Parklane Road around noon Tuesday afternoon.

After the drug transaction, the suspect got back into his car and left, which is when officers saw him make an improper lane change, Wilson said.

Deputies followed the suspect to another location, and saw him make another drug transaction, Wilson said.

Wilson said deputies got the suspect’s tags, and found that they were expired.

That’s when deputies decided to pull the suspect over for an improper lane change and for observing him in the drug transaction, according to Wilson.

Deputies attempted to make the traffic stop, but the suspect disregarded the blue lights, Wilson said.

The suspect then turned on to Claudia Drive, hit a civilian vehicle and a Richland County Sheriff’s department vehicle, Wilson said.

The suspect’s car then hit a tree. Deputies were able to take him into custody, and he’s been taken to the hospital, Wilson said.

The suspect’s condition is unknown, according to Wilson.

Both drivers of the vehicles the suspect hit were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Wilson said.
