Four Florence County men charged with burglary following manhunt

Four men were charged with burglary following a break-in at a rural home and extensive manhunt south of Florence on Thursday, The Florence County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Shortly before 2 pm., the Florence County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of an ongoing break-in at 3512 W. John Paul Jones Rd in Timmonsville. Witnesses told deputies that four suspects ran into nearby woods after wrecking an SUV in front of the house.

One suspect was captured within a half hour of the original call. Following a four hour man hunt with dogs and a state helicopter, the three remaining suspects were arrested in a heavily wooded area less than a mile from the site of the break-in after residents provided law enforcement sightings of the suspects.

Charged with burglary are Mikah Nelsun Green, age 18, of Manning; Keenan Alonza Georgia, age 18, of Manning; John Earl Oneal Coard, age 21, of Manning; and, Shawn Edward Avant, age 25, of Manning.

They were being held at the Florence County Detention Center Friday afternoon awaiting a court appearance.
