Officers were called to the scene of a deadly shooting near Two Notch Road Tuesday, police said.
An officer on a routine patrol near the intersection of Dial and Ervin streets Tuesday afternoon was flagged down by neighbors who were trying to help a man who had been shot several times, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.
The officer arrived and found the man had collapsed in front of a home in the 2300 block of Ervin Street. EMS responded after the call came in just before 4:30 p.m., Timmons said.
The man was taken to an area hospital where he died as a result of his injuries, Timmons said.
Officers believe the shooting took place outside the home.
Police set up a perimeter and brought in K9 units to assist in the search for a suspect, she said. Investigators were talking to potential witnesses in the area.
Police are continuing to investigate.
