A church administration and youth center building in Camden was destroyed by a fire early Wednesday morning, according to Camden Fire Department Officials.
Deputy Chief Phil Elliott said firefighting units were dispatched to The River Church located at 112 Battleship Road, near the Jefferson Davis Highway, at 4:15 a.m.
Flames were coming through the roof of the building by the time crews arrived at the scene, Elliot said. That forced firefighters to use an exterior attack to extinguish the flames.
Elliott said they do not know what initially started the fire, but storms moving through the area could have been one factor.
The incident is still under investigation, and no injuries were reported, according to Elliott.
