Video obtained from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety shows the crash involving a Richland County Sheriff’s deputy and another vehicle that occurred on July 25.

Former Richland County Sheriff’s deputy Cpl. Ken Proffitt can be seen driving through a red light at the intersection of Trenholm and Two Notch Roads, without his lights and sirens activated, and striking a car driven by Katie Miles as she was coming home from the movies causing Proffitt’s car to flip.

As Katie Miles was returning home from the movies she prepared to turn left at the intersection of Trenholm and Two Notch Roads before Cpl. Ken Proffitt sped through the red light and struck her vehicle.

The video shows Proffitt’s vehicle flipping multiple times after strking Miles’ car.

Sheriff Leon Lott fired Proffitt on July 29 after his driving record showed that Proffitt was found at fault for three accidents while on duty since 2012.

Proffitt was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries while Miles did not report any injuries after the accident.
