Home, car damaged in overnight fire in Columbia

Two people escaped from their home when it caught on fire overnight in the Byrneswood Community, west of Eau Claire in Columbia.
Columbia Fire Department responded at about 4:45 a.m. Saturday to the home on Richcreek Road. Responders reported heavy fire from a vehicle and the house. The two residents escaped without incident, the department said.
The home and a nearby vehicle sustained $60,000 in smoke and fire damage, according to the department.
Three other vehicles and a neighboring home sustained minor damage.
The Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
