An Irmo man is charged with attempted murder after Richland County Sheriff’s deputies say he assaulted his estranged wife early Saturday morning.

Gary Wayne Thomas, 51, turned himself in to Richland County Sheriff’s investigators Saturday afternoon, according to Sheriff Leon Lott.

Just after midnight Saturday, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at 113 Anna B Lane in Irmo to find a 41-year-old female victim with upper-body injuries. She was transported to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in critical condition.

Deputies said Thomas assaulted the victim multiple times with an object, causing severe injuries, according to Lott. The victim and Thomas are married but separated and have one child together, Lott said.

Thomas will be transported to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, Lott said.
