A Columbia fireman has been arrested on charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, officials say.
Brian A. Bruno, 53, was arrested and charged with third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor female after he turned himself into investigators Monday, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said in a statement released Monday night.
Bruno, who is a Captain with the Columbia Fire Department, is alleged to have inappropriately touched a girl at a Columbia home on more than one occasion between June and September of 2014.
Bruno has been placed on investigatory suspension pending the outcome of his charges, Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins said in a separate statement released Monday. Bruno has been with the department since March 10, 1997, Jenkins said.
“While unfortunate and isolated, this does not reflect the character, dedication and professionalism by the men and women of the Columbia Fire Department,” Jenkins said in the statement.
Bruno was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center for booking.
