An Oconee County Sheriff’s deputy has been fired after State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) agents arrested him on charges of physically abusing a 9-year-old.
Robert Beddingfield has been charged with third degree assault and battery.
Deputies received a complaint from an elementary school in reference to possible physical abuse involving a child, according to Jimmy Watt, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
The Sheriff’s Office immediately notified SLED and requested an investigation, Watt said.
Beddingfield, who has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2013, has been fired, according to Watt.
