A reserve deputy with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department was charged Tuesday with molesting a 15-year-old girl.
In announcing the arrest in a news release, Sheriff Leon Lott said he was disappointed by the actions of volunteer deputy Michael Collum, 42. Collum was charged with four counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor that allegedly occurred between October 2012 and October 2014. Additional incidents that may involve Collum are under investigation, Lott said.
Collum has been a reserve deputy with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department for less than a year. Reserve deputies are volunteers with the department who go through the same training as full-time deputies, are required to work a certain number of hours a week and perform the same duties as full-time deputies, spokesman Curtis Wilson said.
Collum was being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center Tuesday evening.
