A 13-year-old boy was killed in a Raleigh hotel Friday night when a firearm was discharged in one room and struck the teen in another room, police say.
Police charged Randall Louis Vater, 42, of Knightdale, with involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the death of Nathan Andrew Clark, 13, of Lewisville, N.C.
Vater has been taken to the Wake County Detention Center, police said.
Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were called to the Comfort Suites hotel at 1309 Corporation Parkway in Raleigh at about 11 p.m. Friday.
The people staying in the two hotel rooms were not known to each other, police said.
