A 33-year-old man has been arrested after he was accused of hitting a pedestrian and leading Richland County deputies on a chase down two Columbia interstates early Wednesday morning in a stolen car.
Lt. Curtis Wilson with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said Daniel McCarthy is accused of hitting a pedestrian on Harbison Boulevard and fleeing the scene. The pedestrian was not badly injured.
McCarthy is then accused of getting on Interstate 26 and traveling in the wrong direction, Wilson said. No crashes occurred and no one was hurt during that time, he said
He then is accused of traveling on I-20 to Monticello Road where he exited the interstate and crashed, Wilson said.
Officials said McCarthy was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The Highway Patrol expects to charge him with leaving the scene of an accident and he faces failure to stop for blue lights and other charges.
Wilson said the minvan McCarthy was driving was stolen.
