Two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man at a local bar on Saturday according to Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott.
Lott said DeMichael Razor, 20, and Calvin Myers, 19, have been charged with murder after they allegedly shot and killed 34-year-old Steward Wilson Jr. at Tony’s Lounge located at 2412 Congaree Road in Hopkins early Saturday morning.
Lott said sheriff’s deputies responded to the location after receiving a shots-fired call around 1 a.m. When deputies arrived, they located Wilson who had suffered a gun shot wound to the upper body. Wilson was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to Lott, Razor and Myers were involved in a verbal altercation with an acquaintance in the bar that stemmed from a previous altercation that occurred on New Year’s Day. Razor and Myers then fired several shots at the acquaintance who was the intended target. One of the bullets struck Wilson, who was standing next to the intended target, in the upper body. Razor and Myers then fled the scene and no other injuries were reported.
After following leads, deputies were able to detain Razor and Myers later Saturday morning and brought them into the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Headquarters for questioning. Lott said both Razor and Myers confessed to the shooting.
Lott said Wilson was determined to be an innocent bystander. Razor and Myers have been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center were they are being held.
Tony’s Lounge was the scene of another shooting on Saturday evening after sheriff’s deputies responded to a drive-by shooting that occurred around 10 p.m.
Sgt. Kevin Lawrence, a department spokesman, said the suspects fired several shots into the establishment. One of the bullets struck a patron in the lower body. He was transported to a local hospital with unknown conditions, Lawrence said.
So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting.
