Two Orangeburg men face charges after 55 pounds of marijuana was seized during a routine traffic stop in Lexington County.
Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team and Pine Ridge Police Department on Tuesday arrested two Orangeburg men after they stopped a pickup truck on Sandy Creek Road in Pine Ridge.
Terry Jerome Frederick, 34, of Partridge Road, and Berley O’Brian Greene, 34, of Burch Drive, were arrested at about 7 p.m. on charges of trafficking in marijuana and possessing a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said.
Greene and Frederick are being held on at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings.
Officers developed information during an on-going investigation of drug dealing in the Gaston community that a large amount of marijuana would be transported to Pine Ridge, Metts said. Officers said they saw the suspects riding in a pickup truck and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
Officers spotted two large plastic trash bags in the bed of the pickup, Metts said. Marijuana was seen from the open end of the bags.
In the bags were 16 plastic zip-lock bags that each held about one pound of marijuana, Metts said. Officers also said they found three bales of marijuana in the cab of the pickup. Each bale weighed about 13 pounds, he said. A shotgun and $956 in cash were also found in the truck, Metts said.
Metts asked anyone with information about criminal activity that involves Frederick and Greene to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com). Citizens who want to anonymously report illegal drug activity can call CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or call the NET Hotline at (803) 785-8411, Metts said.
