A Sumter man accused of trying to buy child pornography from an undercover agent has pleaded guilty to federal charges.
Richard Wayne Hill II, 34, pleaded guilty in federal court to possession of child pornography. Senior U.S. Judge Matthew J. Perry Jr., accepted the plea and will impose sentence at a later date.
Last June, Hill sent messages to an undercover postal inspector posing as an online child pornography distributor. Hill contacted the investigator through an online chat room and ordered a CD containing child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
When law enforcement officers delivered the material, Hill admitted he already had a collection of similar images. Officers seized a computer and numerous CD-ROM discs that contained child pornography during a search of his home.
Hill could face a fine of $250,000 and imprisonment for 10 years.
