A 22-year-old Columbia man was shot to death early Sunday morning in the Gaston community just over the boundary line in Calhoun County.
"It apparently was a drug deal gone bad," said Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers.
Christopher Donell Robinson of 13 T.S. Martin Court, Columbia, died ofa single gunshot wound to the chest, Calhoun Coroner Donnie Porth said Sunday evening.
The shooting took place in the parking lot of the American Legion post in the Gaston community where Old Sandy Run Road intersects with Pine Plain Road.
Summers said sometime between midnight and 2 a.m., two vehicles mat at the Legion, which is roughly between Gaston and I-26.
"One was going to buy drugs from the other, and they decided to rob the other and started a gunfight," Summers said.
Another man in one car was injured by gunfire, said Summers. "His injuries are serious but not life-threatening and he is talking with officers.
Summers did not go into details.
Because of the location's closeness to Lexington County, deputies from that county started the investigation. The Lexington County coroner's office, also thinking it was that county's case, ordered an autopsy on Robinson, officials said.
Summers said Lexington detectives now are helping Calhoun detectives on the case. he predicted an arrest in the near future.
