A Richland County judge on Thursday lowered bail for a foster mother charged in the February death of a 9-month-old boy.
Circuit Judge Michelle Childs set bail for Angela Deniece Dukes, 30, at $100,000, said Babs Lindsay, spokeswoman for 5th Circuit Solicitor Barney Giese. Dukes, a pediatric nurse, is charged with homicide by child abuse in the Feb. 8 death of Curtis Williams, whom Dukes had been caring for in foster care.
Dukes initially was charged with a lesser charge of unlawful conduct toward a child. A Richland County magistrate set her bail on that charge at $250,000.
In setting the lower bail, Childs noted that Dukes has no prior criminal record, had no problems with infants as a pediatric nurse, and is not considered a flight risk, Lindsay said. Dukes remained this afternoon at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
