A Richland County resident has been arrested in an apparent nursing care scam.
Constantinha Charron, 44, is charged with swindling, exploitation of a vulnerable adult and perjury related to activities surrounding a business she called Caring Hearts and Hands, the Richland County Sheriff's Department said.
Charron is accused of taking $780 from a resident of Lakeside Apartments on Harbison Boulevard, who gave her a blank check June 22 under the belief that Charron was a certified provider of elder care services. The victim said Charron promised to hold the check "until Medicaid claims were processed," but then the suspect filled in the check and cashed it.
Charron, arrested Monday, had also distributed flyers for Caring Hearts and Hands around various senior care communities, but the business is not a certified health care provider, the sheriff's department said.
