ANDERSON — A man who served as superintendent in one South Carolina school district and was tapped to lead another has been found not guilty of soliciting an immoral act.
Multiple media outlets report Saturday that a jury found Gary L. Burgess Sr. not guilty on Friday.
Burgess was arrested in April after an undercover officer said Burgess solicited him for sexual activity.
Burgess was superintendent of Anderson School District 4 until last year, when he retired after a school nurse accused him of intimidation. He had been scheduled to start work in July as Hampton School District 2 superintendent, but that offer was withdrawn when he was arrested.
Never miss a local story.
He now heads Burgess Research Action Group and is pastor at the Universal Body of Christ Church in Inman.
