UNION - A man has been arrested in the death of his mother who was unresponsive when he brought her to a hospital covered in open sores - some of them with maggots inside.
Media outlets reported Thursday that 46-year-old Bryan Scott Williams is charged with homicide by neglect. He had been charged with unlawful neglect, but the charge was upgraded after the woman died.
Authorities said 67-year-old Carol Ruth Williams had open sores on her legs, buttocks and back when she arrived at a Union hospital on Oct. 10. Investigators who went to the home she shared with her son found piles of trash, adult diapers with human feces and animal feces.
Bryan Williams was being held at the Union County jail.
