Opening arguments in the homicide by child abuse trial of former Columbia day care operator Andrea Person are expected to begin Tuesday morning in the Richland County Courthouse.
Person, 42, faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if found guilty in the death of one-year-old Zackery Ulengchong in 1998.
A jury was seated Monday in her case, which will be tried before Circuit Judge Alison Lee.
Richland County authorities first arrested Person in 2007, when another child died that year while in her care. She was subsequently charged with the death of a third child, which was alleged to have happened in 2001.
Never miss a local story.
But this week, Person is only being tried for the death of Ulengchong. The other cases are pending.
Person operated a home day care for 14 years in Columbia.
