The suspect who escaped from Richland County Sheriff's deputies Wednesday afternoon has been identified as Stephon Pringle Jr., 20, of Betsey Drive in Columbia.
Deputies and their police dogs have been searching for Pringle since he escaped from the back of a patrol car during an arrest at Hunt Club Village Apartments off of Decker Boulevard. Around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, deputies were called to the complex after a neighbor reported that people were selling or using drugs behind one of the buildings, said Chris Cowan, a sheriff's department spokesman.
The deputies found four people with marijuana and arrested them on charges of possession of marijuana, Cowan said. During the arrest, a fifth person walked out of an apartment and opened the back door to a police cruiser. That's when Pringle escaped.
Pringle was last seen wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans.

The three other people remain in custody.
