Richland County sheriff deputies on May 11 said they arrested Daniel Deniro Sims, 27, with 250 pounds of copper as he was selling it at an area recycling center.
Sheriff Leon Lott said Sims was charged with unlawful transportation of ferrous metals. Lott said deputies linked Sims to multiple locations in Lexington County and the city of Columbia where he had allegedly stolen copper over six weeks.
Lott said investigators are working to identify the locations and may file additional charges against any suspects who worked with Sims.
Lott said recycling centers are working closely with investigators.
