Columbia police are looking for a fourth person in connection to the armed robbery of two women near Five Points early in the morning Friday, March 16th. Three others - two men and one juvenile - have already been arrested and charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and criminal conspiracy in the crime.
The victims told investigators four people approached them on Blossom Street two blocks east of Five Points. The robbers showed a gun and demanded the women's purses, wallets, and cell phones and then ran off, said police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons.
The victims flagged down a motorist who tried to follow the suspects in her car while calling 911. At the intersection of Devine and Heidt Streets, a block from a CPD district station, one of the suspects shot at the motorist, hitting her car but not injuring her, Timmons said.
Already arrested in the case are Roger Rodriguez, 17, Jaylen Jermaine Travis, 18, and a juvenile relative of Travis. Still being sought is Justin L. Jones, 19, who faces the same charges, Timmons said.
Rodriquez has been charged in an attack New Year’s Day on three teenagers on Treemont Avenue. He allegedly brandished a shotgun and demanded money from the three juveniles, hitting one of the boys in the mouth and knocking out several of his teeth, Timmons said. Rodriquez has been charged with first degree assault and battery, attempted armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
