Donald Javonta Smith, 22, was arrested by Columbia police Wednesday after he fell through the ceiling of a Fairfield Road home where he was hiding.
Smith was wanted in the May kidnapping and armed robbery of an elderly couple in their Koon Road home, police said in a release. In that incident Smith and two other suspects threatened the couple, made themlie on the floor and made off with a wallet, purse, electronics, jewelry, the warrants contend.
Investigators say Smith ran into the Fairfield Road home and hid in the attic Wednesday afternoon. While they were talking to a resident, Smith fell through the ceiling to the floor. After he was treated for a minor injury at the scene, he was taken into custody, police said.
Wednesday afternoon, Smith was being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, burglary and illegal possession of a firearm.
John Brandon Foster,19, another suspect in the May kidnapping was arrested previously. He was charged with several counts of burglary, plus kidnapping and larceny. A third unidentified suspect remains at large.
