A Crime Stoppers tip has led Columbia Police Department investigators to three men wanted for questioning in a weekend assault in Shandon.
A 23-year-old man received a broken nose, a broken cheekbone and two black eyes when he was attacked by another man around 2 a.m. Sunday, according to a police report. A 21-year-old girl with the victim jumped on the attacker’s back but was thrown to the ground.
The couple said they were being followed by three men while walking home from Five Points in the 2200 block of Wheat Street, the report said. The three men were shouting the name “James” at the couple.
The 23-year-old turned to tell them he was not “James” and extended his arm to offer a handshake.
That’s when one of the three punched him, the report said. The other two suspects watched the assault and then the three ran away toward Wilmot Avenue.
The victim was treated for his injuries at a hospital.
Police have located and are questioning three men being described Friday as "persons of interest" in the case, spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.
