A 46-year-old Gaston man has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars for killing a 17-year-old while driving drunk last December.
David Onley received the maximum penalty Dec. 13 for felony DUI involving death from Lexington County Judge Roger Young, according to the office of 11th Circuit Solicitor Donnie Myers.
Onley on Dec. 27 was driving 17-year-old Jonathon Lee Humphrey on Founders Road at 50 miles per hour above the posted speed limit. He drove his pickup truck off the right side of the road, turned back onto the pavement and then slid through the oncoming lane and off the left side of the road. The truck went airborne and collided with an embankment.
Humphrey died from his injuries.
Onley had a .20 blood-alcohol concentration, according to state Highway Patrol tests. He had six prior DUI convictions in South Carolina and Florida.
