Authorities arrested a mother and put a newborn into emergency protective custody after both the mother and the baby girl tested positive to having three different types of drugs in their bodies, according to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.
Candice Lee Shaw, 23, of Laurens, was charged with unlawful neglect of a child, according to a warrant.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from the Department of Social Services at Laurens County Hospital, authorities said.
The mother and the child had tested positive for the same illegal narcotics – cocaine, Opiate and Benzo, according to a warrant.
Shaw was booked into the Johnson Detention Center, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
