Robert Bobby Williams, 25, was arrested at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday and charged with felony ill treatment to animals, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department announced Thursday.
Sheriff Leon Lott said the man drove his dog to a dead-end at Whispering Pines Road and shot it, leaving it to die. Deputies patrolling in the area heard the gunshots and headed to the scene, where they saw the suspect speeding way, Lott said.
Deputies stopped Williams, then saw the wounded dog emerge from the woods, Lott said. The dog had to be euthanized because of its injuries.
Williams told deputies he shot his dog out of anger because he attacked another one of his dogs.
