A traffic collision during the Monday morning commute left one Sumter County driver dead.
Orin Lewis, 32, was identified as the deceased by Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker, according to the Sumter Item.
A four vehicle collision occurred at 8 a.m. on US-15, near the intersection with Clipper Road in Sumter County, according to Lance Cpl. David Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The driver of a 2002 Ford Explorer was slowing down as it headed south on US-15, when it was struck from behind by the driver of a 2000 Buick, said Jones. The driver of the Ford wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, before the Explorer crossed the median and struck two vehicles heading north.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was airlifted to an area hospital, where they died from injuries sustained in the collision, Jones said.
The driver of the Buick was wearing a seat belt and wasn’t injured, Jones said.
The driver of one of the vehicles heading north, a 2015 Nissan Altima was transported to an area hospital with injuries, according to Jones. She was wearing her seat belt.
The incident remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
