A Lexington County woman accused of killing her infant daughter has been sentenced to life in prison.
Heather Marie Lawson, 23, was found guilty of homicide by child abuse by a jury, according to a news release by the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. She was sentenced to life in prison by Circuit Judge Knox McMahon.
Lawson was arrested in 2016 after Lexington County Sheriff’s deputies found her 7-month-old daughter, Addyson Tuckus, suffering from an injury in a fall. Addyson was found “lifeless with large areas of bruising to her head,” according to the solicitor’s office.
An autopsy concluded Addyson had died of blunt force trauma from “repeated blows to her head,” the release stated. The forensic pathologist who conducted Addyson’s autopsy testified during Lawson’s trial that the infant had “multiple impact injuries” on her forehead, the top of her head, crown area and at the base of her skull.
“It’s our responsibility to make sure her death doesn’t go unpunished,” said Rick Hubbard, 11th Circuit solicitor. “This conviction is yet another example of what we can accomplish when our prosecutors and law enforcement work together for justice.”
