A 60-year-old Columbia man is accused of setting several items on fire Friday night at 2222 North Main Street, causing smoke and fire damage.
Major Anthony Kennedy was charged with arson, burglary, drunkenness and trespassing, said the Columbia Police Department in a news release Saturday night. A citizen tip helped police locate Kennedy, who was trying to hide nearby.
Firefighters noticed smoke coming from the structure when they arrived in the area for another call.
Police officers and firefighters entered the structure, made sure no one was trapped inside and removed other flammable material “to prevent further damage to the building,” the release stated.
