Suspected meth lab near Walmart investigated by Richland County sheriff’s deputies
Sheriff’s deputies are on the scene of a suspected meth lab in Richland County, and one person has been arrested.
Preston Scoggins, 25, was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, which said the scene of the meth lab had been cleared around 5:30 p.m.
The lab is located on Rivkin Boulevard in a wooded area off the 10000 block of Two Notch Road, the sheriff’s department reported. That is near Walmart and Lowe’s home improvement store, among other retail business in strip malls.
After being alerted to the possible meth lab, sheriff’s deputies responded around 1:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Brittany Jackamonis.
At 3:30 p.m., the scene was reported to be under control and there was no danger to the community, Jackamonis said, although the Columbia Fire Department reported it was also on the scene of what it called a “Hazmat incident.”
Three subjects were detained, Jackamonis said before reporting Scoggins’ arrest.
