A woman died Friday from injuries suffered in connection with a hit-and-run accident, Columbia police said.
A 52-year-old man and 58-year-old woman were riding on a moped in the 3400 block of Two Notch Road in Columbia around 5:30 p.m. Thursday when they were struck by a dark GMC Yukon, according to the Columbia Police Department.
The two riding the moped were thrown off. A silver, older-model Oldsmobile then ran over the woman, and she died Friday from those injuries.
Both drivers left the scene and did not stop to help the injured moped riders.
Never miss a local story.
Police on Friday arrested William Washington, 72, and charged him with felony hit and run and failure to render aid and provide information. Washington was the driver of the Oldsmobile that drove over the female victim, police said.
The male victim was not seriously injured.
Police are still seeking the driver of the Yukon. Surveillance pictures of the suspected vehicle (below) show that it appears to be missing a hubcap on the rear passenger’s side.
