Police and coroner’s officials are trying to identify skeletal remains that were found in a wooded area of Sumter on Sunday.
The remains were found around 6:30 p.m. in a wooded area off Gaines Road, according to a Sumter Police Department news release. Police say some children were playing in the area when they found the remains and notified their parents.
The Sumter County Coroner’s Office is working to determine the identity. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
