Richland County sheriff’s deputies are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a suspect responsible for injuring a State Guardsman during a hit-and-run incident on Shop Road Friday.
Lt. Curtis Wilson, a department spokesman, said the guardsman was directing traffic outside of the Harvest Hope Food Bank located in the 2200 block of Shop Road Friday morning when a driver struck him. The driver then fled the scene.
Wilson said the guardsman received non life-threatening injuries during the incident.
Sheriff Leon Lott told reporters that witnesses told deputies the driver of the vehicle intentionally hit the guardsman. Lott also said when the suspect is caught, he will be charged with attempted murder.

Lott said the vehicle involved in the incident is described as a Toyota SUV, with a partial license plate number of 717.
