A Richland County deputy was assaulted Wednesday morning after stopping a stolen car on Broad River Road.
The man driving the car, identified as Taj Nipper, attacked the deputy and tried to flee the scene at 10:15 a.m., the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
Nipper was subdued and has been charged with driving under suspension, simple possession of marijuana, driving a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen tag and assault on an officer while resisting arrest.
The unnamed deputy sustained minor injuries to his upper body, the sheriff’s department said. Nipper was being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center Wednesday night.
