Goodbye, summer.

Hello, school.

Starting Monday, Midlands public-school students will be heading back to classes. That brings a change of pace for many of us, from more hectic mornings to slower traffic for commuters, as school buses return to the roads.

And there are changes for students, too – from new teachers and new friends to new technologies and, in some cases, new schools.

We’ve rounded up a sampling of the new and noteworthy in public schools at thestate.com/education , with photo galleries of the Midlands’ newest elementary schools in Lexington 1 and Richland 2, too. And check out what’s new in high school sports at thestate.com/sports .

Here, a look at who’s heading back when this week:

Monday: Kershaw County, Lexington 1, Lexington 3, Richland 1

Tuesday: Lexington 2, Lexington 4, Lexington-Richland 5

Wednesday: Richland 2
