The winner for one Lexington 3 school board seat has flipflopped again, in a race that saw the tightest vote margin in the Midlands on the Nov. 2 ballot.
William Berry is three votes ahead of Benjie Rikard, a tally showed today. Previously, Rikard was one vote in front in unofficial results.
A recount will occur Wednesday to determine the winner.
The loser can protest that outcome to the State Election Commission. If that happens, state officials will meet in early December to decide what to do.
Never miss a local story.
A tie would cause a runoff election Nov. 16.
Berry and Rikard are incumbents. Two other board members – incumbent Cheryl Burgess and newcomer Gariane Phillips Gunter – were elected to a pair of the three seats at stake.
