New Lexington-Richland 5 superintendent Stephen Hefner plans to stay on the job through spring 2015.
A plan giving him the role was approved by school board members Monday.
Hefner will be paid $186,000 per year initially, along with an annuity and car allowance.
He oversees 16,400 students in classrooms in Irmo, Chapin and Dutch Fork.
Never miss a local story.
Hefner, 62, took the post in January on a trial basis. Before that, he was superintendent in Richland 2 before a brief retirement.
