A new Lexington 1 elementary school for 800 students is slated to be built on a 37-acre tract in the Red Bank area.
School officials acquired a site at Longs Pond Road and Younginer Drive for $1.2 million. Building it is estimated to cost around $30.9 million.
It will be the 17th elementary school in the area. Officials say it is needed to relieve overcrowding.
The school is scheduled to open in fall 2014 – the last of five new facilities authorized in a package approved by voters in 2008.
