S.C. State, working to cut $5.8 million amid a year of leadership turmoil and declining enrollment, has lost another trustee.
Greenville businessman Jonathan Pinson resigned last week to spend more time with his family, a school spokeswoman said Wednesday.
Pinson stepped down as a trustee chairman in February soon after the state’s only public historically black university fired eight key staff members and just before school president George Cooper announced his resignation and a former SLED chief said he found undisclosed criminal issues at the college.
Pinson remained on the board as three other trustees have departed. State lawmakers tried removing all or some trustees last year.

Pinson, the owner of Professional Staffing Solutions in Greenville and Memphis, has Columbia-area ties in co-owning the Hilton Convention Center Hotel and Travinia’s Italian Kitchen Restaurant.
