A missing Shaw Air Force Base captain has been spotted in Georgia and is now considered a deserter.

Capt. Robby Williams III, 30, was last seen in Waco, Ga., driving his 2013 black Jeep Wrangler with SC plate ITC701.

At Shaw, Williams was last seen at Dec. 18 and failed to report to duty Dec. 23.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations has taken over the investigation, as authorities believe Williams is actively eluding officials for unknown reasons, according to Maj. David Faggard. AFOSI officials also believe he has rented hotel and motel rooms in multiple locations, including South Carolina, North Carolina and Chattanooga, Tenn.

Air Force officials – along with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies – continue to seek public assistance in locating Williams. Hotel, motel and gas station managers are asked to contact local law enforcement officials immediately if they see Williams. Additionally, interstate travelers may use smartphones to contact Air Force Office of Special Investigations officials by texting “AFOSI” and their tip to 274637 (CRIMES)

Williams is a light-skinned black man, 5-foot-7 and weighs about 190 pounds. He has light-colored eyes and brown hair. He may be using the alias Robby Lawton.

AFOSI believes Williams is not armed or dangerous at this time.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Williams should contact local law enforcement authorities or the Air Force Office of Special Investigations at (571) 305-8484, text “AFOSI” and their tip to 274637 (CRIMES) or submit a tip online at www.tipsubmit.com/WebTips.aspx?AgencyID=1111 .
