A 29-year-old Beaufort man was arrested for desertion from the U.S. Army on Monday after his ex-wife notified authorities he would not return to duty, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrested the man on a fugitive warrant around 9:30 p.m. after his ex-wife contacted the Sheriff's Office, apparently annoyed that he wouldn't respond to calls and letters asking why he had not returned to duty, the report said.
Deputies found the man asleep in a back bedroom of the couple's Lucerne Avenue home. He was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he was being held without bond Tuesday, according to the jail log.
