Shaw Air Force Base’s 20th Fighter Wing will have a new commander this week. Col. Joseph Guastella will relinquish command of the Air Force’s largest F-16 fighter jet combat wing at a ceremony Friday, military officials said Tuesday.
He will be succeeded by Col. Charles Moore, vice director of operations at the North American Aerospace Defense Command headquarters in Colorado and former commander of the 332nd Expeditionary Operations Group in Iraq.
Moore will oversee 6,000 military and 1,000 civilian employees at the Sumter base, as well as three F-16 squadrons with more than 80 jets, Shaw officials said. Guastella, who commanded the wing since October 2008, is heading to a Pentagon assignment.
