Spc. Lashawn D. Evans, 24, of Columbia, died Feb. 15 in Baghdad province, Iraq, in a non-combat-related incident.
Evans was assigned to the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment, Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan., according to a release from the U.S. Department of Defense.Evans died while supporting Operation New Dawn, the release said.
The death is under investigation.
Evans was a petroleum supply specialist in his second deployment to Iraq, the 1st Infantry Division public affairs office said in a release. His unit deployed to Iraq in March 2010.
