About 130 S.C. National Guard soldiers will deploy to Afghanistan beginning Saturday.
Bravo Company, 198th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, will depart after a deployment ceremony in Hodges.
The soldiers will travel to Texas for training prior to departing for Afghanistan. They will be deployed for about 12 months.
The unit’s mission is to provide satellite communications support as part of the network in country.
“The S.C. National Guard is proud to send this contingent of communications professionals into the field, where their expertise will ensure the situational awareness that keeps our troops on the ground safe,” said Maj. Gen. Robert Livingston, Adjutant General of South Carolina. “We are grateful for their courage and dedication and for the sacrifices of their families and, in many cases, civilian employers during this important, year-long mission.”
