Military honors from the Lowcountry, April 14

Seaman Jacob W. Galvan, son of Jose Galvan of Port Royal, has been promoted to his current rank after graduating from recruit training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes in Illinois.
Galvan received the early promotion for performance during all phases of training. That included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis also was placed on physical fitness.
Galvan is a 2012 graduate of Yucca Valley High School of Yucca Valley, Calif.
Pfc. Tierra S. Felder, the daughter of Cassandra Cook of Beaufort and John Robinson of North Charleston, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia.
During the nine weeks of training, she studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values.
She received instruction in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare, bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Felder is a 2012 graduate of Summerville High School.
